3G-02Trip to 3 Guyanas with Adventures Abroad
Date of travel: Nov 12 – Nov 22, 2002

ITINERARY:
On Nov 12 drive 100 miles in rented car from Vista to Los Angeles Airport (LAX). There I took an early morning (Nov 13) flight via Minneapolis, Miami and Barbados to Georgetown, GUYNEA. After exploring this city and then taking a boat ride on Essequibo River in to the heard of the jungle. A day later a 4WD drive and another boat ride on Demera River into another part of the rainforest. This was followed by a small plane flight to 250 m high Kaietour Falls on a River Potaro in Kaietour National Park. After that return by another small plane back to Georgetown. On Nov 17 bus drive east, followed by a ferry ride across Berbice River. Without a bus across Corantyne River, which forms a border between Guyana and SURINAME and by another bus to its capital, Paramaribo. Then a day trip to Brownberg National Reserve full of animals like Howler Monkeys and others. Another day sightseeing of the city including the Fort Zeelandia.

Afternoon drive east and across a large Maroni River on small boats to French Guiana. Near the town Kourou a visit of the Ariane Space Center, from which the European rackets are launched. Another was a boat ride to the Devil’s Island, where a famous French prison stud. They are actually 3 islands, but only the main and largest is open to visitors. Sightseeing the capital of Cayenne. The return was by a plane from Cayenne via Paramaribo to Georgetown for one night, then flight via Barbados and Miami to LAX and drive back to Vista by rented car late Nov 22.
