S-00 SCANDINAVIA TRIP
Date of travel: July 11 – July 27, 2000

ITINERARY:
Flight from Prague with SAS to Copenhagen in Denmark.
DENMARK: (2 days on the beginning of the trip: Overnight in Copenhagen. Sightseeing Copenhagen – Christiansborg Palace, square with Amalienborg Palace, past Kastellet Citadel, Little Mermaid, stop at Radhus (City Hall), visit of Rosenborg Palace and Resistance Museum. Evening entertainment in Tivoli Park. Second overnight in Copenhagen. Visit to Frederiksborg Slot (castle). Then with our bus on ferry to:
SWEDEN: (4 days the first part: from Helsingborg to Lake Vattern / overnight. A castle at Vadstena, Brigit Monastery, visit Gripsholm Castle, Stockholm – evening on foot by myself through the city / overnight. Sightseeing of the city – City Hall, old town, the King’s Palace, only from outside, visit to ship Wasa found in the bottom of the harbor. Afternoon visit with my Czech friends in their house and in their cottage outside the city. Stockholm second overnight. Continue by bus with stop in former capital of Sweden Sigtuna and later of Uppsala – with a castle, cathedral and the archbishop palace. NORWAY: (7 days: the first Norwegian town Trysil, then Lillehammer – there Maihaugen Folk Museum, open air museum, ski areal, ice hockey stadium and 1994 Olympic Museum, on foot alone through the town. Overnight in a hotel. Next day continuing by bus to Dalsnibba which is the highest highway at 1,350 m above the sea level in Norway. On ferry a one hour trip on Geiranger Fjord. Overnight in Olden. In the morning through town Innvik and Utvik. In Norway there are many tunnels on the roads. The biggest European glacier, Jostedalsbreen, is visible to the west. After lunch Norwegen Glacier Museum. Another ferry ride lasting 2 hours. Overnight in a hotel Stalheim near Gudvangen. Next morning a train ride through many tunnels from Flam to Voss. From Voss by our bus through 43 tunnels to Bergen. Afternoon on foot alone in the city. Overnight in Bergen. From a town Kvanndal by ferry 20 minuts to Utne then by bus to town Odda, continuing through Telemark Province to town Rauland and our hotel. Next morning a visit of power plant where ‘heavy water” was produced in WWII and sabotaged by Norwegian partisans. In mid afternoon reaching the capital of Norway, Oslo. In the rest of the day I am visiting the city on foot and alone. Starting with the harbor, then the National Theatre, the Royal Palace and the Parliament. Later into the Akershus Slott (pevnost). Overnight in a hotel. Next day sightseeing of Oslo with the tour: Vigenland Park, Akershus Slott with the Resistance Museum, City Hall where the Nobel Price for Peace are given. In the afternoon a museum of Viking ships, Nansen’s Fram used also by Amundsen for his trip to Antarctic Continent and “Kon-Tiki” and “RA 2” of Thor Heyerdahl. Second night in Oslo. Departing Norway by our bus for
SWEDEN: (1 day the second visit this trip: In mid afternoon coming to Goeteborg. On foot alone across the city and to Liseberg Park (local Tivoli). Overnight in a hotel. Next morning ferry from Goeteborg to Frederikshaven on the Danish Island of Jutland
DENMARK: (2,5 days the second visit this trip: by our bus from the harbor to Arhus, here a visit “Den Gamle By,” open air museum. Visiting town alone on foot. Overnight Arhus.
From Arhus to Jelling, the first capital of Denmark. Continuing to Fyn Island and its town Odense of Hans Christian Anderson fame. A stop at his museum. Then the new bridge from Fyn Island to Zealand Island coming to Copenhagen. Later afternoon alone visiting Copenhagen again with a 1 hour sightseeing boat ride. Overnight in a hotel. Following morning alone visiting Ostre Unleege Park the Botanical Gardens and downtown including Nyhavn.
Late afternoon flight from Copenhagen to Prague.

AC-03 Arctic Circle trip
Date of travel: Jun 12 – Jun 29, 2003
ITINERARY:
Leaving Prague, Czech Republic by air for Stockholm, SWEDEN and brought by an old friend from the airport to the harbor. A night ferry from Stockholm to ALAND ISLANDS in the Baltic Sea belonging to FINLAND, where I spent a day visiting the islands capital Mariehamn and the Kastelholm Castle outside the town.

Another night ferry to Turku, FINLAND sightseeing the city by myself AM and a city tour PM. Then by train to Helsinki. One day sightseeing the city alone with a boat ride of the bay in the afternoon. Then I joined the Globus group which
started in Danmark, traveled to Sweden and came on ferry to Helsinki. With them I traveled by bus through Finland from Jun 16 until Jun 21 visiting Helsinki, Lahti, Kuopio, Ouli, Rovaniemi (on the Arctic Circle), Saariselka, Inari (museum of Sami People).

Then we crossed to NORWAY, where we traveled Jun 21 through Jun 29 and visited: North Cape, took a ferry from Hommingsvag to Hammerfest, continuing by bus to Alta, Narvik, crossed the Arctic Circle back south, Mo, Trondheim, Lillehammer and all the way to the country capital Oslo. The last day I took a plane from Oslo via Copenhagen to Prague.
